On behalf of Inventum, we worked with ROEF to implement and test the integration of the Burgerhout Elytra roof penetration into a green roof fitted with solar panels. This was not a theoretical design, but involved actually applying and testing it in practice.

The challenge

Combining multiple functions on one roof requires careful coordination, with limited space and the influence of air currents on the green roof making the positioning of installations crucial:

  • Integration of installations without disruption to the roof design
  • Retention of waterproofing and technical performance
  • Alignment with green roof and solar panels
  • Potential for future modifications

To test the practical application, the roof termination was installed on-site and connected to an internally located heat pump. This tested not only the integration but also the functionality of the complete solution.

The result

The practical test shows that the integration of a roof penetration into a green roof with solar panels is feasible.

Understanding the influence of air currents on vegetation

Local vegetation differences are visible around the roof penetration. This provides insight into the influence of air currents and helps determine the correct positioning of installations on a green roof.
